1. The Bhutan Gate
The most photographed landmark in the town. This beautifully carved gate marks the official entry into Bhutan. It’s a great spot for your "First Photo in Bhutan."

2. Karbandi Monastery (Gompa)
Located on a hill 400m above the town, this monastery offers a stunning panoramic view of the Bengal plains and the Torsa River.
Fun Fact: It is famous among couples who visit to pray for children.
3. Zangto Pelri Lhakhang
A beautiful Buddhist temple right in the heart of the town. It is surrounded by a peaceful park with prayer wheels and statues representing the manifestations of Guru Rinpoche.
4. Amo Chhu Crocodile Breeding Centre
A unique conservation farm on the banks of the river. You can see Ghariyals and Mugger crocodiles up close.
Best Time: Visit in the afternoon during the feeding sessions.
5. Torsa Riverside Walk
Perfect for an early morning or evening stroll. It’s a quiet, vehicle-free path along the river that offers a sense of peace before you head further into the mountains.

Thimphu is a unique blend of a modern city and a traditional fortress. Located at an altitude of 7,650 ft, it serves as the administrative and religious center of Bhutan. For tourists traveling from Bagdogra, Thimphu is usually the first major mountain destination after crossing the border at Phuentsholing.
1. Buddha Dordenma (Buddha Point)
One of the largest Buddha statues in the world, standing at 51.5 meters. It is gilded in gold and houses over 125,000 smaller Buddha statues inside.
Why visit? It offers the most spectacular panoramic view of the entire Thimphu Valley.
2. National Memorial Chorten
A beautiful stupa with golden fins, built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan.
The Experience: Watch the elderly locals circumambulate the shrine in a peaceful rhythm of prayer. It is the spiritual heart of the city.
3. Tashichho Dzong (Fortress of the Glorious Religion)
A magnificent fortress on the banks of the Wang Chhu River. It houses the throne room of the King and the summer residence of the Chief Abbot.
Pro-Tip: Visit in the evening when the entire fortress is illuminated with golden lights—it’s a photographer’s dream!
4. Motithang Takin Preserve
Meet the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal. Legend says this unique creature (which looks like a mix of a cow and a goat) was created by the "Divine Madman."

The "Crown Jewel": Tiger’s Nest (Paro Taktsang)
No trip to Bhutan is complete without the hike to the Tiger’s Nest. This monastery clings to a sheer granite cliff 900 meters above the valley floor.
The Experience: A 2–3 hour hike through ancient pine forests and fluttering prayer flags.

Located at a lower altitude (3,900 ft) than Thimphu or Paro, Punakha enjoys a subtropical climate, making it lush, green, and perfect for year-round travel. It was the capital of Bhutan until 1955 and remains the winter residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot).
1. Punakha Dzong (The Palace of Great Happiness)
Widely considered the most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan. It stands majestically at the confluence of two rivers: the Pho Chhu (Male) and Mo Chhu (Female).
The Highlight: In spring (March/April), the purple jacaranda trees bloom around the white walls of the fortress, creating a fairy-tale setting.
Note: This was the venue for the Royal Wedding of the 5th King in 2011.
2. The Punakha Suspension Bridge
One of the longest and oldest suspension bridges in Bhutan (approx. 180 meters). Draped in colorful prayer flags, it connects the town to the nearby villages.
The Thrill: Walking across this "wobbly" bridge over the gushing Pho Chhu river is a favorite activity for adventure-loving tourists.
3. Chimi Lhakhang (The Fertility Temple)
A 20-minute walk through beautiful rice fields leads to this unique temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley, also known as the "Divine Madman."
The Legend: It is world-famous among couples seeking blessings to conceive children. Tourists love the quirky history and the colorful murals in the surrounding Sopsokha village.
4. Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten
Built by the Queen Mother to bring peace to the world, this temple is a masterpiece of Bhutanese art.
The Hike: A scenic 45-minute hike through paddy fields leads you here. From the top, you get the best panoramic view of the entire Punakha Valley.

On the way to Thimphu see the waterfall . Once you reach Thimphu. After morning Breakfast , complete Punakha sightseeing later drive to Paro. Chimi Lhakhang The Chimi Lhakhang, situated on a hillock in the centre of the valley, is also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who do not have children and want one, if they pray at this temple, they are usually blessed with a child very soon. A walk through the village near the temple will give you rare glimpses into the daily life and lifestyle of the villagers. Punakha Dzong It was built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, at the junction of the Phochu and Mochu rivers. This majestic dzong served as both the religious and the administrative center of Bhutan in the past. It measures some 600 by 240 feet and has a six-story, gold-domed tower. Inside are courtyards and religious statuary that hint at the depth of history and spiritual tradition embodied here. • Punakha Suspension Bridge • White River rafting (if interested with own Cost ) Later visit on the way. Dochula Pass The Dochula Pass is a mountain pass in the snow covered Himalayas within Bhutan on the road from Thimpu to Punakha where 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as "Druk Wangyal Chortens" have been built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother. Apart from the chortens there is a monastery called the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), built in honour of the fourth Druk Gyalpo (head of the state of Bhutan), Jigme Singye Wangchuck; the open grounds in its front yard is a venue for the annual Dochula Druk Wangyel Festival. The pass with 108 memorial chortens is adjacent to the country's first Royal Botanical Park. Overnight at the hotel in Paro. (Altitude 2,280m)

Tiger Nest Monastery (Taktsang Lhakhang) is Bhutan’s most iconic landmark and religious site. The name Taktsang translates to “The Tiger’s Nest”. This temple is one of the most holy sites in the kingdom. It is believed that Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew to this location from Tibet on the back of a tigress from Khenpajong. This place was consecrated to tame the Tiger demon, was first built in 1692 at a cave where Guru Rimpoche meditated in a cave. In order to arrive at the temple you must trek for around 2-3 hours through beautiful, shady pine forests that are colorfully festooned with moss and prayer flags.
