WhatsAppGangtok is the capital of the mountainous northern Indian state of Sikkim. Established as a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the 1840s, the city became capital of an independent monarchy after British rule ended, but joined India in 1975. Today, it remains a Tibetan Buddhist center and a base for hikers organizing permits and transport for treks through Sikkim’s Himalayan mountain ranges
Since Lachen is the gateway to the famous Gurudongmar Lake and is known for its rugged, untouched beauty, the names should sound adventurous and peaceful.
"Located at an altitude of 8,835 ft, Lachen is a picturesque mountain village with traditional wooden homes and alpine meadows. It serves as the base for the breathtaking Gurudongmar Lake. Experience true Himalayan hospitality and raw natural beauty in this quiet corner of North Sikkim."
"Situated at a breathtaking altitude of 17,800 feet, Gurudongmar Lake is one of the most sacred and stunning high-altitude lakes in the world. Surrounded by snow-clad peaks, its crystal-clear turquoise waters remain partially unfrozen even in the harshest winters—a phenomenon attributed to the blessing of Guru Padmasambhava. This is not just a destination; it is a spiritual and adventurous pilgrimage for every traveler."
"Built in 1858, Lachen Monastery (Ngodub Choling) is one of the oldest and most significant Nyingma Buddhist monasteries in Sikkim. Perched on a ridge above the village, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Lachen Valley and the towering peaks that surround it. The monastery is famous for its vibrant murals, traditional Tibetan architecture, and the peaceful atmosphere that offers travelers a moment of reflection before their journey to the high-altitude lakes."
"Lachung is more than just a stopover; it is a destination where time stands still. Situated at 8,600 ft, this mountain village is framed by snow-capped peaks and sparkling waterfalls. Whether you are walking through its apple orchards or heading toward the snow-filled meadows of Zero Point, Lachung promises a landscape that rivals the Swiss Alps."
"Located at an elevation of 11,800 feet, Yumthang Valley is a breathtaking alpine meadow surrounded by the majestic Himalayan mountains. Known globally as the 'Valley of Flowers', it is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, featuring over 24 species of the state flower. From sparkling hot springs to the grazing yaks in the meadows and the meandering Teesta River, Yumthang offers a landscape that feels like a painting come to life."
"Located 23 km ahead of Yumthang Valley, Zero Point (Yumesamdong) is the last outpost of civilization before the international border. At an altitude of 15,300 feet, the oxygen is thin but the views are breathtaking. It is a land of perennial snow, where three rivers meet amidst rugged mountain peaks. For those seeking the thrill of the high Himalayas and the joy of untouched snow, Zero Point is an unmissable adventure."
